Kind Friend
I am a "civil war" widow. I am writing to you instead President-elect Hoover
Thinking perhaps he may be too busy just now, to pay attention and you could present this to him when he is not so busy
I know as he is a humanitarian he will listen and help the old "War Widows" to get a better pension
I will be 75 next July, and have been a widow since 1914.
I had two sons in the "World war" One came home with both legs off, after going through severe opperations in five months, a cripple for life, and general health broken, at the age of 19 years He the youngest son should have been my support now.
I appeal to Mr Hoover to do what he can to get us war widows a "living pension" not less than $150.00 per month and let it come very soon as we need it now.
I fell and broke my arm last fall and then I could see how helpless I am. Put your own mother in my place.
At least give all over seventy a good pension for you or the Government wont have to give it very long. Thanking you in advance, and hope to get more pension very soon. My family put in a good vote for Mr Hoover
Yours Respt.
Mrs Alice M Stewart
