Hoover Dam

Oral Histories
Waterboys; July 14, 1932
An important thing to keep in mind about history is that most of what happened in the past was never recorded. For many years only official documents and influential people were considered historic. What we have are fragments given to us by observers or first person eyewitnesses, many of whom had no sense that they were recording history. Many of these accounts are incomplete and need to be viewed as a piece of the whole.

This section reminds us that another picture of events can be obtained from diaries, letters, interviews, journals, photographs and other artifacts. This picture tells us what common ordinary Americans were doing and thinking. This too makes up the history of this great dam.
